Panasonic NN-H664BF 1.2-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave, Black

I have a house full of Panasonic equipment. I have always been impressed with Panasonic's quality and reliability. Therefore, it was a no-brainer when I purchased this oven to replace a Panasonic NN-5479 microwave that had given 15 years of dependable service without any problem.

Within 8 months the oven died. Fortunately, the oven is under a 100% "carry-in" warranty. Unfortunately, Panasonic has no "authorized" repair centers within 50 miles of Orlando, Florida. The closest center is 44 miles away but when contacted they did not want the item mailed to them because their workload is so far behind.

I contacted Panasonic's Customer Care Center to discuss the issue. After being on hold well over 10 minutes, the attitude was "it's your (customer's) problem" to get the item to an authorized Panasonic repair facility. Like the reviewer below, my experience is also that this microwave is a lemon - and that Panasonic is a company which does not offer any acceptable level of customer service.

I bought this microwave in August 2004. Panasonic microwaves are among the more expensive on the market, and of its size this one is certainly more expensive than most. We bought the Inverter because we believed it had a good reputation, and we also felt that Panasonic was a reliable manufacturer who cares about customer satisfaction.

Wrong on both counts.

The microwave stopped working properly in early June 2005. It cuts out after about 6 seconds of cooking. So I tried to call Panasonic, given that it is still under the 12-month warranty. This is where the problems start.

Gee whiz, I read the reviews here on Amazon and I have to say that has not been my experience. After owning a Panasonic microwave oven for several years with no problems at all, I dropped the glass table. They are expensive. Actually the plate glass turntable costs about 35% of the cost of a new oven. So I tried using a regular plate instead of purchasing a new table. Well not using the plate glass that came with the unit burned the sensor in the oven. It still worked, just not as well as it used to. I broke down and bought a new glass table but the damage was done. After three minutes it stops doing its job. It still runs and makes the sound of running but it doesn't heat. I still use it to heat water for coffee or tea or short warmups but not for cooking. Okay, so this model is obsolete now. I bought the next model close to it.
