25-December-2006 . I have owned this since July of 2005. {Mine is White - #R2120jW.} . I have NO signifacant complaints, and a couple of real "pro's". . 1. The continuous power levels - allowed by the "inverter technology" in this one Sharp and most Panasonic MicroWave Ovens - ranging from "10" (full power) down thru "3" (30% power)- are a REAL ADVANTAGE. . . Warming food at 30% is a gradual heating which allow the heat to spread thruout the food fairly evenly, and avoids most hot-spots and re-cooking - especially advantageous for all meats. . Power levels 20% and 10% do cycle On & Off, I am told - probably at the 30% level. . 2. The plain smooth oven bottom is easy to use and to clean. Sharp claims that the microwaves electronically rotate - which certainly is technically feasable - and thus NO Turntable is necessary. . It will not heat.
I purchased it because of it's large capacity and no turntable to deal with. However it seemed wrong to just place the food on the bottom. There is a stainless steel wire shelf provided so I installed it and put the food on the shelf. Sometimes I noticed the food like a potato would be burned where it touched the wire. Once a hotdog arced through a paper plate and burned a hole in the paper plate. Once something arced through a paper towel and it actually had a burning ember glowing in the paper when I took it out. I think the shelf must overload the system and it has caused the demise of the oven. So now it is headed for the junk heap. Don't waste your time and energy installing this short lived, poorly engineered unit over your range. Why isn't it possible to give a product no stars? That is what I...Read more By This review is from: Sharp R-2120JK Smart Carousel Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave, Black (Kitchen) The Sharp "smart Carousel" design uses rotating magnetrons below the surface of the cooking chamber instead of rotating the food on a carousel. The rotating mechanism under the cooking chamber malfunctioned. As a result arcing occurred between the parts causing a fire and smoke. The unit was turned off in time to avoid a fire spreading to the surrounding cabinets. If no one had been present in the kitchen at the time a serious fire could have occurred.
The defect was bad enough. I consider myself lucky the damage was only to the microwave. Dealing with Sharp customer service was even worse. It has taken over two months to resolve this problem. Sharp offered me a replacement but couldn't get a new unit in white. We suggested paying the difference for an upgrade. We paid the difference for the upgrade...the sharp couldn't find it in white...even though I was able to locate a unit in white in about 5 minutes online. After giving up on a replacement and requesting a refund...Read more |
