UPDATE AS OF FEB 2012
If I could give this ZERO stars, I would. I am updating this review, because as of February 8th, 2012, our Whirlpool Gold microwave / convection oven (model number GMH6185...) is broke AGAIN! It stopped heating again out of the blue, so we had the repair company come out. They said the power board was bad and wasn't sending the magnetron the message telling it to turn on. Through the various tests they ran, however, they were able to let us know that our microwave works, however, at anything less than 100% power. For how long is unknown. The cost to replace the control board is ~$160 plus labor. So, for now, we will be heating everything at 90% power to avoid further expenses on this POS Whirlpool product.
REVIEW -AUG 2011
I bought a stainless steel Whirlpool Gold microwave/convection oven (model number GMH6185XVS0) on Sept 30, 2009. The retail price at that time was ~ $650 for this model. This is the same item as above except the...Read more

We have had the same problem as everyone else, and I don't know how I missed the bad reviews when I purchased this microwave in June 2010!
Our microwave stopped heating in December 2011, 6 months after the warranty ended. Whirlpool customer service said it was either the magnetron or a fuse, which would cost us either about $250 or $150 respectively to fix, including the parts and service call charge. They were not sympathetic to the fact that it was only 18 months old, and did not seem to care about losing a formally happy Whirlpool customer (we've had a Whirlpool fridge for almost 20 years with no problems!)
After reading all the bad reviews on this site and others, we decided to eat our loss, dump an 18 month old product, and purchase a new microwave - a cheaper, bare bones LG (while I always wanted a combination microwave/convection oven, like the Whirlpool model, I was never able to cook successfully in it anyway). We also purchased a five year extended...Read more

The microwave/convection oven arrived in a timely fashion and in good shape.
Unfortunately the microwave features did not work, but the convection features did. I contacted the company and they immediately sent somebody out to replace the defective part. The repair person was very professional and the repairs were completed very quickly.
As far as the operation of the convection oven, I have yet to find a way to actually set the temperature. It has presets that go every 25 degrees from 250 through 450. I have recipes that I would prefer to be able to set the oven to 200 or to 500 but that doesn't appear to be possible. This is my first convection oven so I'm still getting used to it. I would like to see the big rack mounted a bit lower in the unit or even a second rack. As it is, the rack is in the middle and makes it difficult to fit larger (taller) items on it.
I would prefer to see the turntable off by default. Every time you fire it up, you have to...Read more
