When my Sharp finally went out, it was off to the store to buy a new one. However, when it comes to microwaves, you want to buy a good brand. And I'm sorry, but your not going to find anything of quality at your local Walmart or Target. So instead, I went with a local appliance store in my area. That's when I cam across this large Whirlpool microwave for $269.00.
MODEL VERSION: Keep in mind that this is a on the counter-top microwave, it is not a range model designed to go above your stove. This model is 13" high, so make sure your cabinet's leave enough room to get the microwave on the counter.
SENSOR OPTIONS: One of the best features this microwave has, is the sensor cooking method. I can literally stick a bowl of chilly, soup, or whatever else, and choose the proper sensor cooking option, and the microwave will literally cook or reheat the food to the proper temperature, without overheating.

Purchased this microwave to replace an older one which was "built in." It works ok and does the basics of any microwave but I notice the LOUDNESS of the unit when working. Seems unnecessarily loud but acceptable otherwise.

Our old microwave died after 28 years (1982 was on the back when we pulled it out). Since we had a very specific space to fill, I reviewed items first by size, then review. This microwave received excellent reviews, although all of the current microwaves seem to die within 6 months (the worse) to 6 years (no more 28 year models!). So far we are very happy with our microwave. It is the correct size (as stated), has a large interior which was my priority, and heats items without the hot spots of my prior oven. The controls are a bit convoluted and require several clicks to get the power level you want, but the added options (popcorn, baked potato, reheating a plate of food, etc.) are very helpful. It does beep once the food is heated as another reviewer noted, and though I didn't think this would bother me, it does get irritating if you can't take the food out right away since it keeps it up. Overall, a fine piece of equipment.
